Your own study guide is your roadmap to study success

[Part 8]

The first part to study smart is to understand what your learning style is.

The second part is understanding how to apply your learning style to create your own study guide that will far surpass any other study guide you will read.

The truth is that no matter which learning style is uniquely yours, you will also need to do some reading and note taking.

Here are the reasons...

  • One form of study is nearly never enough. Always supplement it with another form of study.

  • Certification books provide you nearly all that will be included in the exam.

So if you are a Kinesthetic learner for example, work on your home lab to understand the concepts while reading the book.

If you are a Auditory learner for example, listen to your auditory tutorials while simultaneously reading the book.

And how do you apply all this to writing your power notes?

Follow the book and while you are learning the concepts with your preferred learning style, write power notes describing how you saw or heard something while following the book.

Describing things in your notes on how you saw/heard them and re-reading your notes, you will be able to see those pictures in your mind or if you listened to the tutorials, you will be able to recall that voice in your mind when reading your notes.

Follow this example on how you prefer to learn.

The point of all of this is not to force yourself to study for your certifications with learning styles that don't suit you, because then learning will not feel natural to you.
