Should I get MCSE certified If I have the experience but not the certs?
Getting MCSE certified (and this information is relevant for all certs) is about two things:
- We study to gain more knowledge
- We need to show a formal document to employers that we know the stuff
Whether you have the experience or not, getting certified is not something that some people do. We all do it. Employers actually expect them now and a resume with experience and no certs, well.... doesn't look very normal these days.
Having the experience is even better. Buy a book, read it. Fill the gaps in the knowledge that you are missing. Do the exam. Pass the exam. You are certified.
However high up the IT ladder you are, I would also recommend you arm yourself with some of the entry certs like A+, network+. I know of people that tried to tackle the MCSE cert and even with years of experience, found they had difficulty gasping some things because they didn't go the normal route to gain knowledge in the basics first.
