Will The MCDST Cert Become Redundant In 3 Years?

The mcdst cert concentrates on troubleshooting Windows XP. With Vista having come out now, will this cert become redundant in a few years time or is it still worth studying and getting certified?

I would say that it's definitely still good to study for and get certified. Besides, if need be, you could always upgrade later.

Mainstream support for Windows XP ends on April 14, 2009 while extended support for Windows XP ends on April 8, 2014. Most companies are still using XP despite Vista having come out. Some companies are still using Windows 2000 on workstations still. So Vista isn't going to replace XP in a hurry. There are still issues with Vista, what with stability and vendor incompatibilities where companies won't be in a hurry yet to migrate.

The point of getting certified is to validate your current skill set. And some of the skills you pick up aren't just exclusive to one operating system.
