1. What is the LPIC 2 certification?

The Advanced Level Linux Professional LPIC 2 Certification is the next step up from the LPIC-1. This is part of a 3-part program. Overall the program includes 3 level of certification which are the LPIC-1, LPIC-2 and LPIC-3. The first one is entry level, the second is advanced level and the third, expert level.

The Linux Professional Institute Certification (LPIC) program is designed to certify the competency of IT professionals using the Linux operating system and its associated tools. It is designed to be distribution neutral, following the Linux Standard Base and other relevant standards and conventions.

 

2. Is this cert useful?

Many businesses are using Linux software and it is a useful certification to have. Market share hasn't dropped for Linux nor has the Industry's interest in it so gaining certifications in Linux is a smart move.

 

3. What do you need to be able to sit for the exam?

To be able to sit for the exam you need to already have the LPIC-1 certification. But the LPIC-1 and LPIC-2 exams may be taken in any order. There are two exams to pass which are the 201 and 202.

 

4. What will the LPIC 2 certification do for you?

These are the words of the Linux Professional Institute: "With this certification you will be able to:

  • Administer a small to medium-sized site
  • Plan, implement, maintain, keep consistent, secure, and troubleshoot a small mixed (MS, Linux) network, including a:
  1. LAN server (samba)
  2. Internet Gateway (firewall, proxy, mail, news)
  3. Internet Server (webserver, FTP server)
  4. Supervise assistants
  5. Advise management on automation and purchases"

 

5. What are the specs for the exam?

There are two exams which you will need to pass. 201 and 202. You have 120 minutes to complete the exam. Rather than providing logit measures to examinees and to create a more useful interpretation of scores, LPI provides scaled scores to examinees. The table below shows you the details...

6. Where do I book the exam for the lpic 2 certification?

Certification exams are booked through prometric.com or vue.com.

 

7. Does the certification expire?

Once a person is certified by LPI and receives a certification designation (LPIC-1, LPIC-2, LPIC-3), recertification is recommended after two years from the date of the certification designation to retaina current certification status. However, to RETAIN an ACTIVE certification status, a certification holder is REQUIRED to recertify within 5 years of the certification designation.

When a higher level certification designation is earned, the status of all lower level designations are considered ACTIVE for FIVE years from the date of the higher level certification designation.
