Should I get an information technology degree or certifications first?

Some people will argue that Bill Gates, Jobs and other IT giants didn't finish university and did quite well for themselves. Yes, but these people created their own jobs. Can you create your own job? If so, then this doesn't really apply to you. So here we go.

So, which is better? Both. Should you do both? Now this is the area where things become gray. Ultimately what employers seek is your ability to do the job well and cost effective. Whether you have a degree or not, will depend on the job. If you had to pick one or the other right now, what should you pick? I would definitely go with certifications first. They are your ticket into the IT job market. Experience is paramount and there is no point delaying getting that experience first.
