Certification Exam Help

Which help desk certification is better, MCP or A+?

I've seen this question asked a lot so I'm including an answer to it.

The A+, technically, isn't a help desk certification. It's an overall 'what computers are' type of certification. Studying for it certifies you as a computer technician.

Can you get a help desk type of role with the A+? Yes you can. A help desk type of job is an entry level I.T job.

The MCP concentrates on one exam. Is this a help desk certification? It can be. If you are learning technologies you will use in such a role. For instance, doing the Exam 70-271: Supporting Users and Troubleshooting a Microsoft Windows XP Operating System, as part of the MCDST track, is a help desk certification.
