Is goal setting important?

Many people just do certification, after certification aimlessly. No direction, no destination. Each certification is for a specific technology and a group of them will lead you in a certain direction. And that direction will lead you to your ultimate destination.

Write down where you want to be - now and in the future. Writting your goal as opposed to just thinking about them brings clarity. When you know what you want, you get it.
