Why the A+ Computer Certification doesn't suck

Some entry certs suck, others don't. The A+ definitely doesn't. True, it has lost some of its 'shine' as the years have gone by, but this only means that employers won't drool over their paperwork when a real, living, breathing A+ certified genius is but one meter away from them.

It just means you still gotta have it.

And this is why...

Certifications validate knowledge/experience

Love it or hate it and the world is unfair, employers want to see a piece of paper that states you know your stuff. The most important cert in a new person's I.T career is that first certification. That first one will get that all important first job and from there we move onto bigger and better things.

Yes, you will reach a stage in your career that you don't look at pictures of porches on the internet - you can actually get some time off from your busy schedule to buy one. But that will come later on. For now, make do with that 1980 Nissan that hardly runs. The good days are close by though, fret not.

A computer certification won't only get you a job - it will make you smarter

Do you know what they say about the good old brain? Use it or lose it. As an I.T professional you will never have the fear of losing it. Actually, it will be working on overdrive to compensate for users not using theirs.. but that's another story.

Get the A+ once, use it twice

The A+, along with the network+ counts as an elective if you follow the MCSA track. During the course of your career, as you are getting certified, you will find that you can use some of your old certs as credits for the new ones you wish to do. Always a good thing. Eliminates more study.
