How Important are Certifications to My IT Career?

Certifications started my career in IT and they have also accelerated it. They have given me pay rises, bonuses upon receiving the cert and also opportunities to change companies.

But it wasn't only the certification that did it. I mean, not the actual paper. Certification also means something else. It means motivation to learn something more, to go the extra mile. It means self discipline and it means wanting to succeed.

Since all companies are asking job seekers to be certified, then it has become vital.
