Certification Cisco and Certification Microsoft are two of the top vendors I.T professionals choose to certify with. New people in the industry become confused which to follow after completing several of their entry-level comptia certs.

Truth be told, they are both good. They will both advance your career. But what people don't realize is that they are both different and used in different situations.

Want to work with operating systems? Go for Microsoft
Want to work with networking devices? Go for Cisco

Both are in demand. Both are useful.

Another truth to tell... it's best to have both. Means more studying but also means more job opportunities. And certs are not something you get all at once. As you are climbing your career ladder, simultaneously you climb the cert ladder.

Microsoft dominates the market and more people will go for the microsoft exams, which means there are many qualified network administrators to fill the positions.

On the other hand, in a less saturated market we have Cisco positions.

Doesn't mean you won't find a job with your microsoft cert and it doesn't mean you will find a job in a cisco position. It means, they are both useful and they are both useful to have. So go for whichever one is right for your current situation. You can always expand later on.
