One of the Top Better Memory Techniques – showing and telling

Did you know that when you teach someone you retain 70% of what you teach? Want to retain 90%? Well, then add showing someone as well!.

The road to better memory begins with you understanding the material. When you read passively, you are just throwing information into your head. You aren’t actually doing anything with it. There is no action.

And if you don't revise that material, you are just throwing it into your temporary memory and it's gone - you aren't giving it a chance to become stored in your permanent memory.

An accelerated memory technique that works wonders is to teach and show what you have learnt - or even teach and show it as you are learning it.

The best technique when studying for your certification is to have an imaginary audience who is dying to learn from you. Teach them as you learn and you will learn twice as fast.

When I was new to computers (so new that I didn't know what the inside of a computer case looks like...pathetic I know), I was studying for my A+ certification. I bought an old computer, just to play around with it and as I taught myself what each part did, I showed and taught it to my imaginary audience. I envisioned them asking me questions, which I answered. Anything I wasn’t sure of, I had my book open and glanced at it without interrupting the 'flow of teaching'.

This better memory technique works well because you are using your senses. You are looking (at the parts) hearing (what you are saying) touching (each component) smelling (the dust from inside the computer!) feeling (exhilarated that you are understanding the material!).

Try it. You will probably feel kinda dumb at first, but when you see how much faster the material is sinking in, you will become motivated to learn more.
