What is the primary benefit of information technology certification?

--- Asked by reader

I dunno. Money? The primary benefit of information technology is what you are looking for in certifications. When I first started certifying, it was because I wanted a career as opposed to just having a job.

Years later, many years later, after the money started coming in, then my primary benefit of information technology changed.

Then I started focusing less on the money, and started focusing on helping others that wanted to get into the IT industry. I started collecting certification books my colleagues did not need and distributed them around the IT department where I worked to others that needed them.

The other thing I did to help others is to create this website.

So my answer is this: It depends. What are you looking for?

People certify for many reasons. Money as we said, knowledge, to get a promotion, to get a better job and others just because they are addicted to them. Yes, that happens too.
