A Plus Certification - 6 Things you should know

The A Plus certification is the one most I.T professionals start with, regardles of experience.
Even those working in the industry for years with experience but no certs, start with this one as it gives you a broad foundation to work towards higher certs. It covers the basics of hardware and operating systems and in a small extent, gets into networks.
By studying for the exam you will learn how to build, fix and troubleshoot computers.

The basic points about the A plus certification
There are two exams that you need to pass in order to become an A plus certified technician, look at the diagram below…

You must pass the A+ essentials exam first. Then you choose one of the above on the right hand side to specialize in, so to speak.
So which one of the other three exams should you choose?
By far the most popular combination is A+ essentials (exam 220-601) and IT Technician (220-602) as this combination gives you well rounded knowledge.
You would choose the Remote Support Technician (220-603) or Depot Technician (220-604) if you had a specific purpose...
The Remote Support Technician deals with providing support over the phone. So you would choose this if your employer specifically wanted it.
Or
You would choose the Depot Technician specifically if you were working in a shop that dealt only with fixing hardware. You wouldn't have any contact with customers, so you wouldn't need to support them.
What kind of jobs can you get with the IT Technician certification?
Studying and passing the exam for the A plus certification gives you the title of IT Technician. The kind of jobs the certification opens doors for are:
- PC Technician
- Desktop Support Technician
- Field Technician
- PC Support Specialist

- Remote support technician
- Help desk technician
- Call center technician
